Work has started on a £7m housing development in Birkenhead.

The development features 42 two and three-bedroom homes. It also includes 20 properties for affordable rent through Wirral Partnership Homes.

The work is being completed by Yorkshire-based Keepmoat Homes.

David Wroe, regional managing director at Keepmoat Homes North West, said: "We are already building several sites across the region and are passionate about providing high quality, affordable housing in Merseyside."

George Davies, Wirral Council cabinet member for housing and community safety said "We are delighted that at this difficult economic time, Keepmoat has the confidence to invest in Birkenhead and provide much needed affordable family homes in the borough."

Keepmoat expects the development to be completed by the end of 2013.
