Chester regen plans back on the cards
Councillors are to push forward plans for the Chester regeneration project at a meeting next week.
The Cheshire West and Chester Council executive is to meet in private on Wednesday (8 February) to discuss the Northgate project and rule on plans to drive the development forward.
The scheme was stalled in 2008 after being judged "unviable" in the financial climate. A new retail-based development was then proposed but the plans have not moved forward as quickly as the council had hoped.
Councillor Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity at Chester City Council, said: "Northgate is absolutely essential to Chester's development as a quality retail and visitor centre.
"Circumstances - frequently the financial climate - seem to have conspired against us. However, we have reached the point when major decisions have to be taken….. for the good of the city and future generations."
The original Northgate scheme was initiated by the previous council more than ten years ago.
