Business of Media – get involved
Ahead of the annual Business of Media conference next month, Insider editor Michael Taylor is calling on companies to contribute their thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of the North West's creative sector.
On 21 September, Insider is holding its annual Business of Media conference. We know there is a crowded market for these kinds of gatherings. Therefore, it rather increases the pressure on us to ensure that everyone who comes along gets value out of the experience.
In a nutshell, we’re looking to reach some honest conclusions about what are the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the media and creative sector in the North West.
We have obviously thought about this. We have reached a few of our own conclusions, and the speakers and interviewees we’re asking to share ideas and thoughts with us have their own ideas too.
To remind you, they include Terry Christian; John Matthews from Bigger Picture; Sean Marley from Lime Pictures; Jon Corner from Salford University; Mark Pearson from Betfred; Lou Cordwell from Beep Industries and Iain White from Deloitte.
We've also added Ashley Byrne, executive producer of Made in Manchester, Jason Spencer, the managing director of PHD North and Rob Morrice the chief executive of IAS b2b Marketing to the list. There are others we’re working with and will announce shortly.
But that’s not what the day is about. Self knowledge – for good or for ill – will give everyone the opportunity to think about how they develop their businesses.
So, we’re inviting you to contribute thoughts and views – however outrageous – to this process. Last year we gleaned some useful conclusions about strategy and finance for the media sector. This year we want to look deeper and broader at where real opportunities and threats lie.
But we’ll start with strengths and weaknesses. We’re going to be inviting people on Twitter (@insidernwest) to contribute thoughts, but to be honest, we think you do a bit better than an idea that is expressed in 140 characters.
So, please, send us what you think are the strengths and weaknesses of the region’s creative sector.
