In Focus: Dealmakers 2011
Insider editor Michael Taylor highlights changes underway to the voting system for the 2011 North West Dealmakers Awards.
You may have noticed that the invitations have gone out for the 2011 Dealmakers Awards.
As it’s the 20th birthday of Insider and the 10th anniversary of the awards, it seemed fitting to evolve the event.
In the past we have used the same selection system for the awards that organisations such as BAFTA use – it’s an academy system.
This year we felt the awards have matured. People know about them. Winning one is seen as a major prize, but there is still a degree of mystery about the voting system.
We want to make the awards clear and easy to understand. To that end we are asking for dealmaking teams to put together an entry to a judging panel. Those judges will then collate the entries and decide the winner. They will be an expert panel of senior business people – who understand the deals process, but they are a step removed from the hurly burly of day to day dealdoing. We will be announcing who they are shortly.
So, this year we are going to request written entries for all of the team categories. If you are a lawyer, corporate finance adviser, transaction services adviser, a banker, trade financier, part of a venture capital or private equity team, then this is how you have to do in order to win one of the awards. You have to impress the judges that your contribution to the deals processes has been worthy of being named the best.
On actual deals categories we have been naming the deals of the month throughout the year. This has helped us to be able to present the judges with the relevant shortlists and they will make their choices from there.
I hope you agree this is a fitting way to make these awards and to suitably reward the dedication and hard work in your community.
