Smart move for WEMS International

Share | |

WEMS International, a manufacturer of wireless energy management systems, is on the acquisition trail after purchasing the business of Cheshire-based Smart Energy Systems.

Smart Energy supplies and installs wireless energy management systems and will now be integrated into WEMS's existing offering. The Wilmslow company was founded in 2003 and counts household names, including Audi, Sytner Motor Group and Restaurant Bar and Grill, among its clients.

WEMS, formerly known as Adam International, said the deal would "significantly extend" the company’s client base and further establish its presence in key sectors, such as the restaurant and automotive industries.

Former Styles & Wood chief executive Ivan McKeever, who joined WEMS earlier this year, said: "Smart Energy has a real synergy with WEMS and we firmly believe that it is a perfect fit as we look to grow our business further.

"The restaurant and automotive industries offer significant potential and play a substantial role in our growth plans as we look to strengthen our own client-base in these areas."

In recent months, WEMS has grown its workforce by more than 60 per cent, creating 30 new jobs. Turnover is expected to hit £11m this year. Darren Wilson at Smart Energy added: "WEMS is a company that we’ve admired for some time.

"We’re absolutely confident that this is the right move for Smart Energy and our existing customers as they will benefit from the continued development of energy saving technology and the high levels of customer service that WEMS International prides itself on."

WEMS was advised on the acquisition by Philip Treanor from Manchester law firm Pannone.
