Little Chip shortlist unveiled

The shortlist for this year’s Little Chip Award for exceptional student achievement has been announced. Four submissions have been shortlisted and will compete for the award at the Big Chip Awards this summer.

The complete shortlist includes James Antrobus from Manchester Metropolitan University Computing, Alex Fenton from Salford University, Joseph Ackerley from The Manchester College and Matt Slade and Naseem Naeem from the University of Central Lancashire.

The award was open to work submitted both by individual students as well as collaborative projects, as long as the work was completed between March 2010 and April 2011.

The winner of last year’s Little Chip Award was the University of Central Lancashire for the work by Andreas Linden on the Nosey Parker iPhone application in collaboration with Manchester digital agency Stardotstar.

Now in their 13th year, the Big Chip Awards celebrate the digital sector in the north of England.

Shaun Fensom, chairman of Manchester Digital and organiser of the Big Chip Awards, said: “The level of quality in this year’s Little Chip submissions has been outstanding and it’s fantastic news for the digital sector in the North that our educational institutions are producing such talented and forward-thinking students."

The Big Chip Awards will be announced at an awards dinner on 16 June.

The Big Chip Awards are being judged by an expert panel including Enda Carey from Vision and Media, Julie Meyer from Ariadne Capital, Jon Myers from Yahoo, Thayer Prime, Dr David Kreps from Salford University, Steve Smith, Industry Director, ICT – Liverpool Vision, Alasdair Rawsthorne, Founder Transitive, Manchester University and will be chaired by New Media Age editor in chief Michael Nutley.
