Epistem signs Japanese agreement
Manchester biotechnology and research company Epistem has secured an agreement that will see its scientific research services marketed and distributed in Japan.
The company, which already has a customer base in Western Europe and the US, said the deal further expands its research services within the international market. Epistem signed the agreement with Japanese life science products distributor Veritas Corporation.
Epistem's chief executive Matthew Walls said the move provides the company with “an important opportunity for growth” and will allow it to develop closer links with existing Japanese customers.
Sinsaku Iida, the chief executive of Veritas, added: “Veritas' sales network has the scientific experience necessary to introduce Epistem's high quality services to potential Japanese customers and will make for more efficient marketing and easier access for Japanese customers to Epistem."
In the six months to 31 December 2009, Epistem posted a 90 per cent rise in like-for-like sales to £2.8m. Pre-tax profit was £5,000, compared with a loss of £615,000 a year earlier.
