Iconic development to be reopened
An iconic Newcastle housing development, which has been derelict for 10 years, is to be reopened following a £2m revamp by Your Homes Newcastle.
Bolam Coyne is a cluster of housing that forms part of the grade II-listed Byker Estate in Newcastle.
It was designed by architect Ralph Erskine in 1970 and at the time Byker was the largest housing complex in Britain.
In association with English Heritage, Homes and Communities Agency, Wates Living Space and Ryder Architects, YHN renovated the development with support from Newcastle City Council.
It will be officially opened on 23 February by Baroness Andrews, chairman of English Heritage.
John Lee, YHN chief executive, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming Baroness Andrews to the region to celebrate the completion of this major project, which has transformed both the estate and the surrounding area."
