Work starts at wind facility

Share | |

Construction is underway on TAG Energy Solutions’ £20m offshore wind tubular production facility at Haverton Hill, Billingham.

Contractors are in the process of erecting the steel frame for the 6,920 sq ft building, which will house specialist equipment for the manufacture of large diameter ‘cans’ for offshore windmill foundations.

Once the frame is complete, the roof and outer cladding will be installed in preparation for the internal works, which are due to be completed in spring 2011.

The development is expected to create up to 400 jobs and is the first facility of its kind in the UK.

The project is funded by private grants from Platina Partners and Environmental Technologies Fund (ETF), as well as support from the Department for Energy and Climate Change and One North East.

TAG Energy Solutions’ Alex Dawson said: “Embarking on the construction of the facility is an important milestone in the creation of a robust and effective supply chain for the offshore wind market.”
