Notts venues boosted by Light Night trade

More than 30,000 visitors attended Nottingham's Light Night Festival earlier this month, according to organiser and Business Improvement District (BID) We Are Nottingham.

The live music and entertainment festival was organised and co-funded by We Are Nottingham, the Business Improvement District for licensed premises in the city centre, and local licensees.

Twenty-three venues took part in the festival, hosting live bands, DJs and special light themed events, with some reporting a 25 per cent increase in trade.

The BID team said more than 30,000 people attended the event on 10 February – an increase of 5,000 on 2011.

Sylvia Oates, chief executive of We Are Nottingham, said: "Despite the cold weather, it was great to see so many people venturing out to enjoy everything that the city has to offer.

"The festival has also helped to increase trade for many of our members, so it’s been a big hit all round. We would love to see this become a permanent part of the city’s Light Night celebrations and make it even bigger and better in the years to come."

With 2012 marking its fifth year, Light Night is organised by Nottingham City Council and supported by We Are Nottingham.
