Whitworth Bros pumps dough into expansion

Wellingborough-based Whitworth Bros has acquired a flour-milling business with three operating sites in the East Midlands as part of its expansion plan.

The speciality bakery has bought the business of Smiths Flour Mills, which has flour mills in Worksop, Langley Mill in Nottinghamshire and Holbeach in Lincolnshire, from joint administrators Alastair Beveridge, Nick Cropper and Anne O'Keefe of Zolfo Cooper for an undisclosed sum.

Andrew Smith, corporate partner at law firm Shakespeares, which acted on the deal, said: "We were able to move quickly to pull together a six-strong team of legal experts to support Whitworth Bros in making this strategic acquisition and assist the business in increasing its production capacity.

"The deal was completed in the space of just a week and we provided services and advice in areas including corporate finance, insolvency, employment and property law.

"Whitworth Bros is a thriving Midlands-based business and we are delighted to be involved in supporting them as they continue to strengthen their operations and grow their footprint."

DLA Piper acted for the joint administrators.

Shakespeares has offices across the Midlands in Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Stratford-upon-Avon, Solihull, Moreton in Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour.
