42 Under 42 awards launched

Midlands Business Insider is today officially launching its 42 Under 42 awards, where we uncover the region's young raw talent, entrepreneurs and business leaders - and we need your help in finding them. Who will be running the Midlands tomorrow? Help Insider find out.

Ten years ago we launched 42 Under 42 in an attempt to discover the rising business stars in the region. The average age of our influential Power 100 list was 52; but they were established power brokers – we were keen to find those who would be driving the region on the coming decade.

Over the next few weeks Insider will add to the hundreds of other 42ers who have been selected over the past decade, publishing their names and achievements in the magazine. We will invite those few selected to a special gala dinner on 14 June, where they will get the opportunity to meet other finalists and 42-ers from previous years, to become members of the region's most exclusive networking clubs.

The get the best we need nominations and suggestions of people in Midlands business life who might be eligible and worthy of the Under 42 designation.

Over the next month we want you to email us names, contract details – both phone numbers and email addresses – to sam.metcalf@newsco.com or kurt.jacobs@newsco.com – along with a short explanation as to why that person should be considered. You can nominate yourself. However we will need all nominations by close of play Wednesday 29 February 2012.

We will either contact the nomination worthy of being considered by sending them a form, or forms can be downloaded by clicking here and sent to either Sam Metcalf or Kurt Jacobs at the email addresses above.

There are some basic rules to 42 Under 42:

• The businesses for which the candidate work or own need to be headquartered in the Midlands or most of its operations run from the region.

• The candidate's business needs to have been trading for at least two years, or they must have been involved in it for more than two years.

• Candidates must be aged 42 or below on 14 June 2012. Sorry, being "young at heart" doesn't qualify.

• Previous successful 42ers can't be nominated again, although previous unsuccessful candidates can try again.

• No candidates from professional or financial services or from public relations.

• There is a degree of flexibility in the rules – we will consider an outstanding case if needs be. However, the final decisions on the eligibility of all nominations, shortlists, final selections and whom to award special trophies lies solely with the editorial team of Midlands Business Insider.
