Real men smell of...Walsall

Now, Insider is well known for a certain metrosexual panache - manbag, designer stubble, Beckham-designed undies. So we're glad to be joined in our crusade to bring male styling to the Midlands - God knows it needs it – by Black Country entrepreneur Colin Bruton. Colin has founded Walsall's Fellaswipes, which makes "intimate cleansing wipes for men". With a bit of help from UKTI it,s picked up a major order from Australia - a land even more in need of male grooming than Bilston.

"Fellaswipes are designed by men for men," says Colin. "I never tell men when to use them but there are three main reasons; male grooming – it's nice to freshen up throughout the day; before or after sex - there isn't always time for a shower; and men with bladder and prostate problems find it a nice, discreet way to clean up."

Colin tells Insider that his next big target is the US, which he reckons could eventually account for three quarters of turnover. Can you imagine it, a New York, high-flying lothario moving in for the kill, knowing that he exudes the seductive scent of…Walsall?

It’s a man's, man's world…sort of

Continuing the metrosexual theme, Insider has been delighted to bump into our old mucker Rob Gilmore of Centric Commercial Finance at more than one business bash over the past few weeks. However, we were more than a little bemused at our last meeting to see Rob passing himself off as 'Zena'. "Erm, they didn't have a name badge ready for me," Rob admitted. "Zena didn't turn up, so they gave me hers instead." Sadly for Zena it wasn't just a good night's party she missed out – the organisers were handing out bags full of lady's beauty products. Rob's silent on whether he took Zena's girlie goodies as well as her identity.

Chicken arks, veggibeds and Felicity

Insider has fond memories of watching The Good Life during the 70s, and particularly of Felicity Kendal's outstanding assets as she grubbed up… Anyway, we're glad to hear that the movement to turn suburban gardens into grown-your-own plots continues. M&M Timber, the Kidderminster garden and landscape products manufacturer, has seen demand for its Good Life-style products soar in recent months, notably for chicken arks and veggiebeds. In fact such is the demand for the back-to-basics products that is looking to take on more than 20 additional staff.
