Oakland to double workforce after investment

Oakland International has opened a £3m storage hub in Redditch and started a recruitment drive after securing investment from Barclays Corporate.

The company said the 55,000 sq ft development would allow it to double its workforce in 2012 and create up to 50 jobs.

The multi-temperature supply chain specialist's latest facility was opened by Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid.

The latest expansion comes as the Midlands company announced it had grown turnover 25 per cent year-on-year. The new 55,000 sq ft warehouse provides an additional 8,000 pallet spaces and incorporates a deep chill storage chamber.

"With Barclays Corporate backing for the project, the new warehouse has extended our capabilities and allowed us to retain and improve our competitive offer," said managing director Dean Attwell.

"Increased capacity in the UK will directly influence and benefit the company's Irish export and trade operations, with exports increasing between the two countries, Ireland to the UK and vice versa."
