Something for the weekend

Ant and Dec move over, coz the Midlands now has – Tim and Ad! You may not have heard of Tim Warwood and Adam Gendle, as they're known to their mams in Tamworth and Walsall, but the tracksuited duo are presenting Goalmouth – Disney's answer to Match of the Day and Soccer AM. Wondering if the duo can match the gravitas of the Midlands' own Gary Lineker? Then have no fear because Tim & Ad will be presenting features like Footbowl in which Premier League players are challenged to knock down 21 giant bowling pins, and Mighty Mascot in which those furry pitch side creatures test their sporting mettle in challenges including a western rodeo. Live Premiership games? Who needs them?
Mutton dressed up as damn
Now Coventry has always had a bit of a chip on its shoulder about being ignored and overlooked by the political classes in London. Now it can nurse its grievance a little further thanks to the debate on elected mayors. In an increasingly impassioned speech in Birmingham about why the great populaces of Brum and Cov should vote for their own boss, Lord Adonis called out "how many people in Birmingham and Coventry can name the council leader?" Pause. "Actually I can't name Coventry's leader either, and I'm a politician who should know." Little surprise, then, that Cov's leader, John Mutton, is somewhat opposed to elected mayors. I mean, if his fellow Labour party leaders can't recall him, what chance the voting public?
Ladies that don't lunch
More than half of women in the Midlands do not get together with their girlfriends as often as they would like according to a survey by Oxfam. More than 50 per cent of women in the Midlands (56 per cent) meet with their friends less than once a month. The survey comes as female celebrities launched Oxfam's new fundraising campaign, Get Together, to support women around the world for International Women's Day. Celebrities including BBC presenter Gemma Cairney and columnist Caitlin Moran from the Midlands joined Lauren Laverne, Miquita Oliver, Caroline Flack, Dawn Porter, Grace Dent, Cherry Healey, Brix Smith-Start, Jo Good and Whistles' Jane Sheperdson to show how a fun night out in great company can make a massive difference. We guess these lot can afford to go out more than once a month, though…
