99p Stores to create 350 West Mids jobs
A West Midlands branch of budget retailer 99p Stores is set to open in February as part of a UK expansion, which is expected to create 350 jobs in the region.
Managing director Hussein Lalani said the new Dudley branch will "revitalise" the town and boost its Jubilee city status bid.
In the UK 50 stores are planned for the year, with ten in the West Midlands and about 1,500 jobs set to be created.
The new shop, formerly the Spencer's indoor market, on Dudley High Street opens on 3 February and will be the 175th branch of 99p Stores in the UK and Ireland – the 11th in the West Midlands. More than 30 staff will be hired.
Lalani said: "Britons' thirst for value has become unquenchable and nowhere is this more so than in the West Midlands.
"The value genie is now well and truly out of the bottle and there is no putting it back in."
The Northampton-based company aims to have 600 stores in the next decade, with sales of more than £300m and 5,000 employees.
