Daw Mill improvements needed - UK Coal
Mining giant UK Coal has said it has introduced a "more intensive intervention" in managing its Daw Mill site to improve production.
UK Coal, which has been reviewing the future of the site, said a "key priority for 2012 is to safely recover production levels" at Arley, near Coventry.
The business said today (23 January 2012) it was set to return to profitability for 2011 but said Daw Mill improvements are needed. It comes after three miners died at the site in 2006 and 2007.
A UK Coal spokesman said progress at two of its mines "were offset by lower production at Daw Mill where the programme to mitigate a face gap fell short of the mine's commitment, resulting in negligible production from Daw Mill through December.
"A new face is ramping up during January."
