GB Development Solutions has sold Chesterfield Football Club's old stadium at Saltergate to Barratt Homes for an undisclosed sum.

GB took ownership of the site in 2009 and GB Development Solutions achieved outline planning permission for 68 units at the end of August last year.

In the meantime, GB Building Solutions completed both the design and build of the new 10,338-seat, £11.5m stadium in 2010 just one mile from the centre of Chesterfield.

Leicestershire-headquartered Barratt Homes intends to build 68 family homes of two, three and four bedrooms in line with the planning permission that GB achieved. Prior to demolishing the existing structure, however, an archaeological dig and survey must be carried out.

"After working with Chesterfield FC for a number of years we are really pleased to complete this deal with Barratt Homes, one of the leading housing developers in the UK," said Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Group.

"We know that local people are really keen to see the site developed and the much needed provision of new homes that this will create."

The sale is due to be completed on the 31 January.
