Best Buy's UK dream is over

Share | |

Best Buy's Nottingham and Derby branches were among the 11 across the country which closed for a final time yesterday (15 January).

A Best Buy spokesman confirmed to Insider that all of the electronic retailer's UK-based operations have now closed down including its website.

It comes less than four years after they opened in May 2008 when the US-based retailer joined forces with Carphone Warehouse to open 11 'big box' stores.

They were based in Dudley, Rotherham, Liverpool, Derby, Bristol, Nottingham, Thurrock, Southampton and three in London.

The closure plans follow the company's £46.7m UK losses for the six months to September 2010.

It is hoped that 1,100 Best Buy employees will take up roles elsewhere in the Carphone Warehouse Group.

It has been reported that supermarket giant Morrisons is interested in buying the stores to house its recently-acquired Kiddicare brand.
