A comedy festival backed by a television channel is set to bring a £2m economic boost to Leicester, it is claimed.

Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival is set to take place from 3 -19 February and feature comedians such as Chris Addison, Richard Herring, Marcus Birdman and Sarah Millican.

Ian Borley, senior partner of KPMG in Leicester, said: "This hugely successful festival could really be used to put Leicester on the map – not just in the tourism trade, but to potential business investors as well.

"The city council and the local enterprise partnership (LEP), together with leadership from the mayor, should use this year's festival to get business people to Leicester to show them what a great city this is in which to work, live and relax."

Research undertaken by De Montfort University showed that the comedy festival brings a £2m economic benefit to the city.

Leicestershire Business Voice is hosting a preview event for the festival at its Burns Night Supper on 25 January at St Martin's House.
