Bookings on the rise at Center Parcs

Peak-time holiday bookings are up by nearly a fifth (19 per cent) at Nottinghamshire-based Center Parcs.

The short-break holiday operator said bookings for breaks over the Queen's Jubilee in June and Christmas 2012 were performing "very well".

Peak bookings over the summer are up 19.1 per cent on 2011, with overall bookings having a 2.2 per cent increase.

Center Parcs said the data suggested families were still opting to stay in the UK for main school holidays.

Colin Whaley, the company's sales and marketing director, said: "There has been a lot of uncertainty about how the market would behave in 2012 and what effect the Olympics and the eurozone crisis would have on holiday bookings.

"However, here at Center Parcs, during this peak booking period, we are seeing some very encouraging booking numbers for the year ahead. We are very optimistic for 2012, and expect another strong year."
