La Senza sale saves East Mids jobs

More than 60 East Midlands jobs have been saved at troubled retailer La Senza after a Kuwait company agreed to purchase certain assets of the company.

All five major East Midlands outlets will remain open, despite the company shutting 81 stores with the loss of more than 1,000 jobs.

Alshaya Group, based in Kuwait, acquired 60 of La Senza's UK shops after the company entered administration in December.

Of these, East Midlands branches including Derby, Leicester Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham were purchased, rescuing 63 jobs.

Mohammed Alshaya, executive chairman of Alshaya Group in Kuwait, said: "This is a strategic investment for us and a positive addition to our extensive international retail portfolio.

"This is the first step in a long-term commitment to developing the La Senza UK business, which we believe has great potential."
