La Senza sale saves 100 West Mids jobs
More than 100 West Midlands jobs have been saved at troubled retailer La Senza after a Kuwait company agreed to purchase certain assets of the company.
But ten stores in the region are pencilled in for closure. Despite a deal being struck, 68 jobs at the West Midlands outlets have been lost.
Alshaya Group, based in Kuwait, acquired 60 of La Senza's UK stores, securing about 1,100 jobs in the UK.
Of these, West Midlands stores including Bull Ring, Hanley, Merry Hill, Solihull and Stratford were purchased, rescuing 101 jobs.
But the Birmingham, Hereford, Leamington Spa, Rugby and Shrewesbury branches are among 81 which were not sold. Sixty-eight jobs have been axed at ten stores in the region.
Mohammed Alshaya, executive chairman of Alshaya Group in Kuwait, said: "This is a strategic investment for us and a positive addition to our extensive international retail portfolio.
"This is the first step in a long-term commitment to developing the La Senza UK business, which we believe has great potential."
