A Northampton-based Vauxhall dealership has been bought by automotive retailer Vertu Motors in a £2m deal.

The trade and certain assets of W Grose Northampton was purchased by Vertu, which now operates 11 Vauxhall dealerships.

Vertu said the dealership would be relocated to a purpose-built dealership which will be built on freehold land in Northampton.

The total investment in this new dealership will be £4.5m, said the company, and it is estimated these new premises will open late in 2012.

W Grose Northampton's turnover hit £20m for the year to 31 December 2010

Vertu said the business, which was acquired on a short-term lease from W Grose, will complement its existing Northampton Peugeot operation.

Robert Forrester, chief executive of North East-based Vertu, said: "We are delighted to expand our operations in Northampton. This is our 11th Vauxhall dealership and reflects the growing scale of our Vauxhall operations."

The company operates 83 outlets comprising 80 franchised and three non-franchised sales outlets.
