Brum makes top 20 'must visit' destinations
Birmingham has been named as one of The New York Times' 45 'must see' places in 2012, thanks to its culinary offerings.
The city was one of four UK destinations to be listed by the paper, including Glasgow, Wales and London.
The publication chronicled the 45 top places in the universe which should be visited over the next year.
Birmingham came in at number 19, one spot ahead of space. London was given the number four placing.
The New York Times noted the city's array of culinary treats, promoted by the ten-day Birmingham Food Fest which took place in 2011.
"The chefs are building on an already rich dining scene," said The New York Times. "Birmingham is famous in Britain for its Balti Triangle, an area of town that is home to a beloved Pakistani-Kashmiri curry dish invented here; it is also birthplace to such classically British food items as Typhoo Tea, Bird's Custard and HP Sauce."
