Nottingham-based car interiors company Lawrence Automotive has bought a US manufacturer.

Lawrence Automotive acquired Northern Engraving, headquartered in Wisconsin, and its subsidiary Northern Automotive Systems, based in South Wales.

Northern Engraving, which operates from two sites in the US, specialises in automotive trim and product identification.

Lawrence said: "With the economy in some sectors showing signs of improvement, we look forward to continuing production from these historic and important manufacturing sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Wales.

"This is an important opportunity to continue the business in the US and UK for real aluminium component manufacture and for us to grow our global automotive, appliance and nameplate customer base."

Lawrence said it would invest in technology to make new lines of components, and that it would launch new products made in South Wales in 2012.

The company said: "The acquisition forms part of Lawrence’s efforts to increase product offering in the automotive industry while expanding into the appliance and product identification industries."
