WNDC unveils zone development plans
A compulsory purchase order (CPO) is being prepared to lead to a mixed-use development in Northampton's enterprise zone.
West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) has started the CPO process for the Avon and Nunn Mills sites, covering almost 100 acres of brownfield land.
The site comprises a disused factory owned by Avon Cosmetics and a former power station owned by Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon. The proposed CPO also covers an area of land in unknown ownership, which is required to build a 1.6km road through the sites.
Located along the River Nene, the lad is situated in the Northampton enterprise zone which stretches across 295 acres.
Chris Garden, WNDC's director of regeneration, said: "The Avon and Nunn Mills sites are at the forefront of plans to regenerate Northampton’s waterside. Situated next to the River Nene on a key gateway into the town centre, they are an ideal location for high quality commercial and residential development.
"We are using our CPO powers to help unlock the barriers to progress and ensure the sites are brought forward as one cohesive mixed-use scheme."
Preparations for the CPO are set to start later this month (January) this month. A public inquiry and a decision by the Secretary of State later in the year will then be made later in the year.
