Pro-growth policies needed urgently, says chamber

The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce has pledged to lobby the government over the "anaemic growth" and rising unemployment in the region.

George Cowcher, chief executive of the chamber, told Insider the organisation would be urging the government to kick-start growth-enhancing policies to get the economy moving again.

"There is no doubt that 2011 was a difficult year. The pace of economic growth slowed down as the year went on, with turbulence in the global markets and the ongoing problems in the Eurozone compounding matters further," he said.

"Against this backdrop, firms must go forward into 2012 with caution, but also with the confidence to seek out and capitalise on new business opportunities.

"Growth is anaemic, unemployment is rising and there is still a clear need for more growth-enhancing policies to kick-start the recovery and get the economy moving again."
