International trade to boost 2012 success
International trade will play an integral role in making 2012 better than last year, according to Peter Hogarth, regional director of UK Trade & Investment East Midlands.
Hogarth said that the new year will "better" than 2011 with exports set to equal "their highest level this century at £17bn for goods plus another £1bn in services".
"The hard work that many companies put into developing overseas markets when UK sales began to fall is paying off and there remain opportunities for more companies to grow overseas," he said.
Hogarth added that there has "rarely been more central government emphasis on exports", with the figures supporting the success of this to East Midlands businesses, employment and the regional economy.
"The faster growth in exports than in imports saved us from going into recession this year. My hope for next year is that more East Midlands businesses recognise overseas markets for the very real opportunity that they are."
