Land acquired for Dudley supermarket
Plans for a 75,000 sq ft supermarket in Dudley have moved closer as developers have purchased land surrounding the site.
Cavendish Quarter Properties, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mark Glatman's Abstract Securities, will bring the proposals to Dudley Council's planning committee early next year.
Cavendish has now entered into "a number of legal agreements" to acquire surrounding land and has completed the purchase of Cavendish House, around which the development will be based.
Abstract's development director Christopher McPherson said: "We have been a landowner in Dudley for a several years and we have considered various options for Cavendish House over this period.
"We are at the early stages of discussions with a number of major supermarket retailers and we have already secured the majority of land required which is not already in the ownership of ourselves or the local authority."
Councillor Angus Adams, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, added: "We are very excited by the current proposal and while it must meet all of the necessary planning policy tests, it could be a major element of the current regeneration programme in the town.
"It would complement other schemes such as the two new Dudley College developments, the transformation of our historic market place, the Townscape Heritage initiative and our major plans for the Castle Hill area."
