Buyers to submit bids for Blacks

Retailers including Mountain Warehouse, Go Outdoors and Cotswold Outdoor are among the buyers reportedly circling troubled camping and outdoor retailer Blacks Leisure.

Bids are expected this week for the Northampton business which has debts of £36m.

Last week Sports Direct, which holds 22.5 per cent of Blacks, said it had decided not to bid although it is believed to be still interested in parts of the business.

It is expected that Blacks, which has 98 Blacks outlets and 208 Millets, will be rescued through a pre-packaged administration allowing buyers to shed unprofitable stores.

At the start of December, Blacks made a final bid for survival by putting itself up for sale. After major refinancing agreements and failed fundraising bids, the company said it was now inviting offers through its adviser, accountancy firm KPMG.
