LEP puts forward Growing Places plans

The Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has submitted its bid to secure £9.6m from the government's Growing Places fund.

The money has been earmarked for the Black Country since the funding stream was unveiled last month.

Growing Places, which has a £500m budget, aims to kick-start infrastructure projects including housing developments, which in turn are set to create hundreds of jobs.

Stewart Towe, chairman of the Black Country LEP, said: "This funding is excellent news for the Black Country as it will enable us to get schemes off the ground, which have been held up in the past.

"While we do not have an endless sum of money and we will clearly have to carefully prioritise where the money is invested, we are confident this funding will create a significant number of jobs along the way."

Councillor Les Jones, leader of Dudley Council and LEP board member, added: "This submission makes a commitment that we will look to spend the funding on appropriate projects to help get stalled projects moving again. We will be looking to receive this money early in the new year and then invest it during 2012 to ensure we see quick results."
