Panel lines up for Insider’s special Euro event
Insider has confirmed a quintet of experts for its special debate on the impact of the euro crisis on the region.
Five experts, including politicians, academics and managers, are set to answer questions from an audience of business leaders on Friday 13 January in Derby.
The Question Time-style event comes as Europe faces its greatest crisis since the Second World War.
Although Britain has carefully avoided joining the euro, the uncertainty and chaos threatening Europe’s collective currency has profound implications for businesses in the Midlands: the eurozone accounts for more than half of our exports and a collapse could well take the region’s economy down with it.
The panellists at the event, being held at Cooper Parry’s offices at 3 Centro Place, Pride Park, are:
• Peter Hogarth, regional director, UKTI East Midlands
• Delphine Demilly Plackett, export manager, Pennine Healthcare
• Professor Baback Yazdani, dean of Nottingham Business School & chairman, CBI East Midlands
• George Cowcher, chief executive, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce.
• Patrick McLoughlin, MP for Derbyshire Dales
This special event will examine how things now stand in Euroland and what the possible outcomes might be for your business. Our panel will briefly explain how the euro reached this state of crisis, what the potential scenarios are, and what governments and markets must to do so stave off catastrophe.
More importantly our experts will explain what the implications for Midland businesses will be, both immediately and long term, what the region's businesses must do to protect themselves, and uncover what opportunities might present themselves over the coming months.
With input from an invited audience of business owners this is sure to be a lively debate.
