The chief executive of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club has been hailed as the city's business leader of the year.

The honour, from Nottingham City Business Club, aims to recognise Derek Brewer's role in securing Ashes Test matches at Trent Bridge for 2013 and 2015.

The club said securing the high-profile England versus Australia cricket fixtures will provide a boost for businesses in the city and surrounding area.

Trent Bridge has secured a total of 11 England matches to be staged at the venue from 2012 to 2016.

Brewer said: "I am delighted to have won this award which is also a refection of all the hard work put in by the rest of the team at Trent Bridge.

"Securing two Ashes Test Matches was very much a team effort, with everyone playing their part, and it was great news when we heard we'd been successful, beating off some stiff competition from a number of other venues in major cities."
