Housing scheme set for council office site
Up to 139 new properties could be created on the site of former Birmingham City Council offices if the housing scheme is green-lighted on Thursday (22 December).
Outline planning consent is being sought by property agency DTZ for the 3.3-hectare (8.2-acre) site in Sheldon.
It currently houses the Silvermere Centre, former Birmingham City Council offices. The council's development arm Birmingham Property Services has applied to build 139 semi- and detached dwellings.
Officers are recommending the plans are accepted as they are consistent with the council's Birmingham Unitary Development Plan 2005 and Places for Living (2001).
The development would also go towards the council's target of constructing 50,600 houses in the region, said the officer's report.
If the proposals are accepted, officers recommend 15 per cent of the properties be affordable and the applicant pay £27,750 as compensation for the loss of playing fields and £62,200 towards the provision of children’s play area within the Sheldon Ward.
