Something for the weekend

Party on

If, like us, you suffer from a definite sense of self-loathing, disgust and general bowel malaise during the whole of January, then you might as well stop reading now.

If, however, you want to carry on partying, then the Friday 13th Club will be blasting away those Christmas cobwebs with a gig night at Tonic in Nottingham in aid of the NSPCC, with 100 per cent of ticket prices being donated directly to the appeal.

Organiser Andrew Springhall told us: "The evening will be informal and fun style networking with the highly-acclaimed East Midlands based covers band Junction 25 performing. Come along, enjoy a drink and let your hair down while catching up with your fellow Friday 13th members and other professionals.

"Since Junction 25 is a covers band we have a little competition for you; when RSVPing we'd like everyone to request a song to be played at the gig - you may even request for it to be dedicated to someone!"

The catch? It’s actually on 18th January, not 13th. We’ll see you there

Show them the money

As offices around the UK start decking the halls with tinsel and preparing for the annual office Christmas party, recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark has found that most office workers would prefer a lump sum of extra cash this Christmas (94.7 per cent).

Only one in 20 (5.3 per cent) said they'd prefer a night of mulled wine, mince pies and mischief. Surprisingly, the survey of more than 1,000 office workers found that it was the younger generation who would sacrifice their office celebration for more money in their pocket this year, with only one in 30 (2.9 per cent) opting for a party. This was slightly higher for over 55s with one in 15 (6.3 per cent) older workers keener to let their hair down.

Who says young people are daft?

Tanks for the memories

Vehicles from a Leicestershire activity centre are some of the stars of that pub-bore’s favourite telly show Top Gear’s DVD exclusive. The Armourgeddon paintball and activity site near Husbands Bosworth supplied the tank used in the ‘Top Gear at the Movies’ in which Richard Hammond and James May recreate some of the most memorable car stunts from cinema.

You’d think Hammond would’ve learned his lesson by now.

"We have had our vehicles featured in many TV shows and films over the years, but it was really great to have one our tanks featured in the Top Gear DVD which is bound to be a bestseller," said Stuart Garner one of the centre’s owners. "It was amazing to see the tank in action, and after seeing the final cut of the DVD we couldn’t be happier – it looks really impressive on screen."

We’ll take your word for it, Stu.
