HOW Planning has been appointed to work on a major regeneration scheme in Barwell, Leicestershire. The company will submit a planning application for the 2,500-house development next year.

The company's environmental team has been appointed to the multimillion-pound scheme by developers Taylor Wimpey, Barwood Development Securities and Ainscough Strategic Land.

Regeneration of the site, which spans 120 hectares (297 acres), is part of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's strategy to create a sustainable urban extension.

The proposed new development will include about 2,500 new homes and a site for a primary school, community facilities, extensive open space and recreation land.

Chris Peacock, of HOW Planning’s environmental team, said: "We are working very closely with our Clients, the Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to ensure that the plans will take all environmental and social considerations into account.

"Barwell is in need of regeneration and investment and these plans will help create a thriving new community, building on the objectives of the Council’s Area Action Plan."

HOW said it is hoping to submit an outline planning application on behalf of the developers' consortium by spring 2012.
