The new national centre for refurbishment skills is set to launch in Stoke-on-Trent later this week.

Phase one of the £11.4m CoRE (Centre of Refurbishment Excellence) development has created a training ground for the building industry and the new Stoke-on-Trent College Technology Centre.

The site, which will host students from January, will be officially opened by Andrew Stunell MP on Wednesday (December 14).

It was built in a partnership between the Building Research Establishment (BRE), Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent College.

Coventry-based energy giant E.ON supported the project as a founding sponsor.

Through the project's second phase the historic Enson Works, a 19th century listed pottery factory, given a revamp.

Councillor Ruth Rosenau, Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: "The education building at CoRE will provide a first class facility for training in refurbishment skills.

"The project is firmly putting our city on the map as the national and international focus for technological advances in the industry and it is exciting to see the first phase being unveiled."
