Something for the weekend
Hair today, gone tomorrow
Movember is over, of course, but well done to Alumet for raising £170 for the Myton Hospice. Hannah Morris from the hospice judged the 'taches along with Alumet's retired construction manager and 'king of the tache' Graham Hindley.
The winner was contracts director Steve Smith, with Lee Aston coming close in second place. Our favourite was Kevin Crowley's somewhat psychedelic effort.
So inviting
There are some events that you would bite your own arm off to attend, and one came our way this week. It was an otherwise quiet Tuesday morning, when an invitation flopped into our inbox from Seal Communications headed: INVITATION: Real ale festive soiree with beer celebrity, Marverine Cole.
Of course we opened the email immediately, to read: "I would like to invite you to an early evening real ale festive soiree this Friday 9 December at The Shakespeare on Lower Temple Street, from 6.30pm.
"The evening is being hosted by beer celebrity, Marverine Cole, who will guide you through the real ale on offer at The Shakespeare." A tent was set up outside The Shakespeare within half an hour.
Bring your own
More predictions of doom for those cancelling their staff Christmas party, this time from the Forum of Private Business.
The Forum warns bosses that to risk alienating their workers – who have "more than likely worked hard during a particularly tough year" – eroding morale further, and disincentivising staff to go the extra mile for their company in future.
The not-for-profit forum has said while cash may be in short supply for many SMEs, festive frolics don’t have to cost the earth.
The forum then lists ten ways in which businesses can save this Christmas, but still make their staff feel wanted.
One of these is priceless: "Allow staff to get into the festive spirit by decorating the office with Christmas decorations. Employers could even invite people to bring their own in to further save on costs."
Picture the scene with 50 staff all bringing in their own Christmas tree. A real stair-blocker of an idea.
