Amazon and JLR boost Staffs job generation
Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent has topped a UK-wide poll for job creation.
Almost 2,000 positions are expected to be generated in the region over the coming years.
The Inward Investment Quarterly report for autumn said that thanks to Amazon and Jaguar Land Rover's employment plans, the region was a "clear winner if you’re measuring jobs".
The report, released by marketing company Breeze Strategy, said new projects in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent were set to create 1,873 jobs.
Maitland Hyslop, the region's LEP chairman, said: "This report demonstrates what members of the LEP have been saying for many months; that Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are proving themselves to be key places for major investors.
"These have been big announcements indeed and come from leading global brands. In addition we have had major successes in terms of our Regional Growth Fund bids in rounds one and two and the allocation of the Growing Places Fund."
Online retailer Amazon announced plans to create a regional hub with up to 900 jobs, while JLR is set to create more than 1,000 positions when its site at the i54 business park comes into full operation.
