International sales success has boosted performance at Nottingham video game developer Crytek.

Crytek, known for developing FarCry, the Crysis franchise and the CryENGINE, also recently revealed their plans to boost their staff numbers at an Invest in Nottingham business lunch.

Karl Hilton, managing director of Crytek UK, said: "We are delighted with the company's success to date and it is fantastic to report that the staff employed by Crytek will grow by 40 per cent by this time next year.

"Our employment drive has already begun and by autumn 2012 our studio in Southreef will be at full capacity and we will have 140 staff."

It comes after the business' UK branch was moved to Nottingham's Southside business district with the base developing the multiplayer part of Crysis 2, which launched in March 2011, while Crysis has been launched on Xbox360 and PlayStation 3.

Crytek also recently announced it has been signed by THQ to make Homefront 2. Since then, the company said international sales have been a "success".

Paul Southby, chairman of the Invest in Nottingham Club, added: "Nottingham is a city with creativity at its core and is fast becoming a digital media centre.

"Gaming companies located here benefit from excellent ICT infrastructure, readily available skilled workforce and competitive high class office space and rates.

"Nottingham continues to be at the forefront of the digital revolution; by encouraging developments such as the portal data centre to the city will only enhance Nottingham's creative offer."
