Birmingham ranked 'most attractive' regional UK city

Birmingham Council leader Mike Whitby has hailed a poll ranking the city as the 52nd most attractive place to live in the world.

Research by international consultancy Mercer placed Birmingham as the UK's "most attractive" city outside of London, which ranked 38th. Elsewhere in the UK, Glasgow was placed 56th and Aberdeen 54th.

Birmingham is the only UK city to have moved up the table - by three places from 55 in 2010.

Whitby said: "This year's ranking is excellent news for Birmingham and it affirms our position as the most attractive city in the UK to live in outside of the capital.

"Our steady climb up Mercer's league table demonstrates how Birmingham's commitment to regenerate and improve its environment – from our ambitious low carbon targets to pledges to create a more walkable city – is paying major dividends."
