House prices down in West Midlands

The average price of a house in the West Midlands has dropped month-on-month to £129,500.

The region was one of six where house prices went down in October 2011 with a 0.7 per cent monthly fall, according to figures from the Land Registry.

Compared with October 2010, house prices in the region have dropped by 4.1 per cent over the year.

The average house price across the country dropped by 0.9 per cent compared with September to £159,999 - also 3.2 per cent down on the year before.

In the neighbouring East Midlands, house prices rose by 0.4 per cent month-on-month to £123,811 - 3.1 per cent down on a year ago.

The region with the highest average house price in October was London at £340,308 while the lowest average price was £100,674 in the North East.

London was also the only region to register a year-on-year rise in average house prices at 0.3 per cent. There was a 7.2 per cent slump in the North East - worse than any other region.
