B.C. Barton & Son calls in administrators
An Oldbury-based manufacturing company established more than 100 years ago has sunk into administration.
B.C. Barton & Son said depressed construction and civil engineering markets led to a reduction in turnover. Nine of the company's 45 employees have been made redundant.
Administrators from Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery were appointed to the business, which is continuing to trade as a going concern. They are now seeking a restructure or sale of the business.
Founded in 1898, B.C. Barton & Son specialises in traditional presswork, welded fabrication and sheet metal manipulation.
Joint administrator Guy Mander said: "The company has an established reputation for quality and good service; it also had a number of interesting projects in the pipeline which did not come to fruition in time.
"We are continuing to trade the business with a view to a restructuring of the company or sale of the business as a going concern.
"Regrettably, following an initial review of the company’s operations we have had to make nine employees redundant. Our team has been assisting those employees in order that their claims can be processed as efficiently as possible."
