Perfection Foods to create 100 jobs in Leicester
Cake manufacturer Perfection Foods is to establish a Leicester hub, Insider can reveal. The company will open a 110,000 sq ft international distribution centre in the city, creating at least 100 jobs.
Gurdeep Bath, export manager at Walsall-based Perfection Foods, said the new hub on Charter Street will open in 2013.
He said: "We won’t be making use of the new international distribution centre until 2013; however there will be huge job opportunities. The facility will be based very close to the city centre, making it ideal for logistics purposes."
He added that Perfection Foods had "big plans" to move into overseas markets.
"We’re exporting right across Europe, right down to the Mediterranean – and we’re always looking at South and Central America and the BRIC countries," he said. "It’s really about getting the logistics in place – once we do, then we’ll enter these markets."
The news comes just a week after Bath told Insider it would increase its employee headcount by 70 when it opens its new 16,000 sq ft factory in Walsall next February.
He said: "The new factory will make cakes to service our overseas market," he said.
Perfection Foods was established in 2000. The export business was launched in 2009 by Bath, initially trading with six European countries – a figure which has grown to ten territories.
"Export is vital to our business and to the UK economy, and this new production facility will help us enter whole new markets. We’ve got plans to move into South America, Central America, northern Africa and the BRIC countries – it's just a question of getting the logistics sorted."
Bath said the new factory would eventually employ up to 70 people over the next 12 months.
It will sit alongside Perfection Foods' 100,000 sq ft Walsall headquarters. The company supplies wholesalers such as Makro, Batleys and Bestways as well as Asda and Morrisons.
