Jobs generated with £2.5m waste scheme

Waste management business Wastecycle has started work on a £2.5m deal with Nottingham City Council which it said will create "dozens" of new jobs.

The company, based in the city, said the roles would be generated through the project which aims to enhance recycling rates.

Wastecycle will recycle items including paper, cardboard, plastics, cans and glass collected from the kerbside from the city’s households, businesses and factories.

The five-year deal was awarded in competitive tender, entered by 20 of the UK’s major waste management companies.

Councillor Alan Clark, portfolio holder for energy and sustainability at Nottingham Council, said: "Wastecycle are a key partner in improving recycling in Nottingham, as their Colwick plant retrieves 90 per cent of waste for future reuse or recycling.

"This is great for the environment, reducing the amount of rubbish going to landfill, reducing the city’s carbon footprint and saving energy and money too."
