Birmingham-based Clearwater Corporate Finance has appointed Roy Smith as healthcare industry adviser.

Smith has more than 25 years' experience working at a senior level within the medical devices sector. He was recently chief executive of gynaecological and general surgery company Femcare Group.

Femcare was backed by Barclays Private Equity, in a deal advised on by Clearwater.

Smith said: "I had an excellent relationship with Clearwater throughout the Femcare deal. Clearwater emphasised the importance of sector-specific knowledge as well its understanding of cross-border M&A. Joining Clearwater is a significant opportunity and an exciting challenge."

Clearwater’s global healthcare has completed 16 deals in the last year. In addition to the sale of Femcare, it has also advised on the sale of Neolab, a generic pharmaceutical business, to DCC, and the acquisition of Eden Supported Living by Sovereign Capital.
