Proposals detailing a multimillion-pound housing scheme in Cannock have been submitted by developer St. Modwen. If the 700-house project is given the go-ahead, it could generate 1,000 jobs.

Birmingham-based St. Modwen has submitted plans to develop the project on land off Pye Green Road, Hednesford, Cannock.

The proposed 142-acre development, which lies north of Cannock Town Centre, is planned to include up to 700 homes, a new primary school and 75 acres of public open space.

A shopping centre and community facilities have also been incorporated into the plans.

Mike Timmins, senior planning surveyor at St. Modwen, said: "The creation of this major development at Pye Green will bring social, educational and environmental benefits to Cannock and address the town's shortage of housing, particularly three and four bedroomed family homes.

"The scheme will deliver significant levels of inward investment, including more than 1,000 jobs created by the construction of the development as well as staff required at the new school and local centre."

Subject to planning approval being granted early in the New Year, St. Modwen said work should begin on site in spring 2013.
