CeWe Colour to take on greeting card market

A Warwickshire-based company attempting to rival online greetings retailers like Moonpig.com has told Insider it is tapping into social media opportunities to get ahead of competitors.

Photo finishing company CeWe Colour will launch the greeting card arm to its £11m photo-services operation, in January.

The website, Card Town, will use facial recognition technology to produce personalised greetings cards, and said it will utilise social media applications to stay ahead of the competitive market.

"We will be launching on Facebook, and have a tab which lets users know when their friends' birthdays are, so they can use the site to send them a card," said James Morgan, the company's online marketing manager.

"The company is definitely looking to advertise on TV, and hope we'll be able to do so in the next 18 months."

Morgan said the company had already signed up to collaborate with photography retailer Jessops and had several other business deals in the pipeline.

"Obviously, this is a hugely competitive marketplace so it’s important that we’re ahead of our competitors.

"We want to get away from that ‘last minute’ approach of ‘resorting’ to an online card and instead make Card Town the first choice for customers when it comes to creating the perfect card easily and simply via our user-friendly website," he said.
