Family Business award winners named
The winners of the Midlands Family Business Awards have been unveiled.
Mansfield-based Baggaley Construction took the top prize to be named Midlands Family Business of the Year at last night's (17 November) event.
Baggaley is a fourth-generation construction company which was founded 103 years ago.
Derbyshire-based CW Sellors and Birmingham's Salts Healthcare were listed as runners-up in the category.
Judge Annabel Prow of The Wilson Organisation, said: "Thirty-two businesses entered the Family Business of the Year Award and it was an extremely hard-fought category, which specifically seeks to recognise established family businesses that can demonstrate success across their businesses.
"Baggaley was able to show sound financial measures and evidence of good governance, service excellence, innovative processes and a commitment to its community, along with exemplary family values and a clear vision for the future."
Baggaley's chairman Howard Baggaley was also joint winner of the award for Outstanding Contribution. He shares the title with Sarah Holmes of Merrythought, Britain’s oldest remaining soft toy manufacturer. Category runner-up was Lee Summers of Southam-based Alumet Systems.
The award for Development of International Markets went to Hinckley's HJ Sock Group, while Northampton retailer 99p Stores picked up the Fastest Growing Family Business title.
WB Power Services (WBPS), based in Ilkeston, won the Service Excellence category.
Rural Family Business of the Year went to Special EFX, based in Stratfod-upon-Avon while leading Adviser to Family Businesses was won by Midlands accountancy firm Baldwins.
Food manufacturer Asiana, based in Nottingham, was given the Business Innovation gong, followed by Coventry' Progressive Education Tools, which won the Commitment to the Community category.
Finally, Bilston's McAuliffe Civil Engineering was named Best Small Family Business, beating off competition from Civil Defence Supply, based in Lincoln, and Chesterfield's T Nutt and Sons.
